On 13 April 2026, the Medical Device Authority (MDA) welcomed a courtesy visit from the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office to strengthen strategic collaboration in enhancing Malaysia’s medical device regulatory system.
The WHO delegation was led by His Excellency Dr. Rabindra Romauld Abeyasinghe and Dr. Soo Chun Paul, while the MDA delegation was headed by Ts. Dr. Muralitharan Paramasua, Chief Executive of MDA.
The discussion focused on the implementation of the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT), aimed at ensuring a robust, transparent, and internationally aligned regulatory framework, in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve WHO Listed Authority status.
MDA also highlighted its ongoing initiatives to drive innovation in medical devices, including the development of complex devices, digital health solutions, as well as the introduction of e-labeling and Unique Device Identification (UDI) systems.
This collaboration reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety, quality, and global competitiveness of its medical device industry.
